For most importers the 2.0L hybrid is the better buy: it costs less, uses slightly less fuel and has the widest trim choice. The 2.5L hybrid is worth the extra cost only when your buyers value stronger acceleration or want the top Flagship trim. Here is the data behind that answer, taken from the 2026 China-market specification.
How do the two hybrid systems compare?
| Specification | 2.0L hybrid | 2.5L hybrid |
|---|---|---|
| Engine code | M20F | A25D |
| Displacement | 1,987 cc | 2,487 cc |
| Engine output | 152 PS (112 kW), 188 N·m | 185 PS (136 kW), 221 N·m |
| Electric motor | 83 kW (113 PS), 206 N·m | 100 kW (136 PS), 208 N·m |
| System output | 145 kW (197 PS) | 169 kW (230 PS) |
| WLTC combined | 4.2–4.5 L/100 km | 4.55 L/100 km |
| Fuel tank | 49 L | 49 L |
| Top speed | 180 km/h | 180 km/h |
| Curb weight | 1,585–1,610 kg | 1,615–1,660 kg |
| Trims in 2026 | 10 | 3 |
Which uses less fuel?
The 2.0L hybrid, by a small margin. On 17-inch wheels (2.0HE Elite and 2.0HGVP Luxury) it is rated at 4.2 L/100 km WLTC combined; on 18- and 19-inch wheels, 4.5 L/100 km. Every 2.5L hybrid is rated at 4.55 L/100 km. For a taxi covering 100,000 km a year, the gap between 4.2 and 4.55 L/100 km is about 350 litres of fuel per car per year on the WLTC figures — real-world use will vary.
Which should a fleet import?
Taxi, ride-hailing and rental fleets should import the 2.0L hybrid, usually the 2.0HE or 2.0HGVP. They have the lowest purchase price, the best fuel rating and the smallest, cheapest tyres (215/55 R17). See our fleet solutions for volume orders.
Which should a dealer import?
Dealers selling to private and executive buyers can justify the 2.5L hybrid, particularly the 2.5HQ Flagship, the top trim in the range. A practical showroom mix is mostly 2.0HG and 2.0HXS hybrids with a few 2.5HG or 2.5HQ units at the top of the range.
What about the 2027 model year?
The same two hybrid systems carry over to the 2027 Toyota Camry, which adds a 15.6-inch screen to every trim. If you want the newest specification, compare both on the 2026 Toyota Camry page.
