Why Rental & Taxi Companies in Central Asia Consider the China-Made Toyota Camry Hybrid
Why taxi, ride-hailing and rental operators in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Central Asia look at the China-made Toyota Camry Hybrid: fuel use, running costs, trims, delivery routes and what to check.

Taxi and rental operators consider the China-made Camry Hybrid for one main reason: fuel. The 2.0L hybrid is rated at 4.2 L/100 km WLTC combined, against 6.03 L/100 km for the 2027 2.0L petrol Camry. For cars that run all day, that difference is the largest single running-cost saving available in a full-size sedan — and the car does not need charging infrastructure.
How much fuel can a hybrid Camry save a fleet?
Using WLTC figures for the 2027 model year, a car driving 100,000 km a year would use about 4,200 litres as a 2.0L hybrid (2.0HE) and about 6,030 litres as a 2.0L petrol (2.0E) — roughly 1,800 litres less per car per year. Real-world results depend on traffic, climate and driving, so test on your own routes, but the direction is clear.
| Version | WLTC combined | Fuel per 100,000 km |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0E petrol | 6.03 L/100 km | ≈ 6,030 L |
| 2.0HE hybrid | 4.2 L/100 km | ≈ 4,200 L |
| 2.5HG hybrid | 4.55 L/100 km | ≈ 4,550 L |
Why a self-charging hybrid rather than an EV?
The Camry hybrid never needs to be plugged in. Operators in cities with limited charging, or with long intercity routes, get lower fuel use without depending on chargers or changing driver shifts around charging time. It refuels at any petrol station in minutes.
Which trims suit taxi and rental work?
- 2.0HE Elite Hybrid — lowest price, 17-inch wheels, 4.2 L/100 km: the natural taxi choice.
- 2.0HGVP Luxury Hybrid — same efficiency, adds equipment for ride-hailing “comfort” classes.
- 2.0HG Premium Hybrid — for rental and executive transfer, with more comfort features.
- Used 2024 hybrids — the lowest entry cost for price-led fleets, subject to import age rules.
Why China-made?
Central Asia is connected to western China by road and rail, so China-made Camrys can reach Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan overland. China-market supply also offers four model years (2024–2027) and 46 trims to choose from, plus a large pool of low-mileage used cars. See our guides for Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
What should operators check first?
- Certification and import costs for your country (EAEU rules apply in Kazakhstan; Uzbekistan has its own).
- Hybrid servicing capability at your workshop or a local partner.
- How infotainment and connected services will work for your drivers.
- Winter and summer operating conditions on your routes.
- A trial order: we accept orders from one unit, so you can test before a full fleet.
